the word of wisdom
The church claims the Word of Wisdom commands members to abstain from alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs, tea, and coffee. There is debate as to why and what is allowed, such as caffeine. The church ignores the parts that state barley drinks are for the belly, to eat fruit in season, and to eat meat sparingly. Early church leaders drank alcohol and the church even owned breweries and distilleries in Utah before prohibition.
