kinderhook plates
The Kinderhook Plates were a set of six small brass plates "discovered" in 1843 near Kinderhook, Illinois. Joseph Smith reportedly began translating them, with witnesses claiming he identified them as a record of a descendant of Ham. The plates were later revealed to be a hoax, created by local men to test Smith. This incident raises serious questions about Smith's claimed ability to translate ancient records by divine power.
