Kristie did all the right things and was an exemplary mormon mother teaching her children the gospel. As is common she worried about the mormon belief in eternal polygamy but still didn’t stray even after she heard more about honest church history about Joseph Smith’s affair with Fanny Alger which evolved into plural marriage and polygamy as practiced by the church. She suffered through cognitive dissonance for 8 years before finally deciding to study church history without confirmation bias and it led her to leave the church, telling her family she left and happiness. Kudos to the bravery required to dig in and let the facts guide us.
Went to BYU, married in the temple. I’m a mom of 4. I homeschooled my kids for 10 years. Taught my kids to memorize scriptures. I was a Mormon.
I had major anxiety about sharing my husband in Mormon heaven.
I heard about the Fanny Alger story and was completely shocked. I looked for answers but there were none to give. Struggled with cognitive dissonance for 8 years.
I decided to face my fear and study church history and issues objectively- without confirmation bias.
I told my family I was leaving the church. I was brave and I’m so happy.
