Biography

Joseph Smith Sr. was the father of the Prophet Joseph Smith and one of the Eight Witnesses of the Book of Mormon. He testified that he saw and handled the golden plates in June 1829. Baptized on April 6, 1830, he became one of the first converts to the church his son founded.

On December 18, 1833, he was ordained as the first Presiding Patriarch of the Church, giving patriarchal blessings to members. He later served as an Assistant Counselor in the First Presidency under his son from September 1837. He conducted missionary work in the eastern United States in 1836.

Joseph Sr. and his wife Lucy Mack Smith had eleven children, including Joseph Jr., Hyrum, Samuel, William, and Don Carlos—all prominent in early church history. He died in Nauvoo, Illinois, on September 14, 1840, after blessing his children one final time and ordaining Hyrum as his successor as Patriarch.

They say, "Don't delve into the mysteries". They say not to worry about those "unknowable questions". They say to just be patient and God will explain it all later. This shows a stunning lack of integrity on the part of Mormons. Look at the articles published by the church which attempt to explain away that fact that Joseph Smith's "translation" of the Book of Abraham scrolls bears no resemblance whatsoever to what the scrolls actually say. Published right there in the Pearl of Great Price are images from the scrolls, side by side with Joseph's alleged translations. At the time the Pearl of Great Price was published, nobody could argue with Joseph's "translation" since nobody at that time could read Egyptian. But now people CAN read Egyptian and Joseph's "translations" are laughably wrong. And what's the church's explanation? They don't have one. "Preach my Gospel" does not tell missionaries to share about the 30+ wives Joseph Smith had, and as young as 14 years old, nor the 50+ wives Brigham Young had. They don't teach you about the actual reason why Joseph Smith was killed - that he burned down a press. They don't teach that Joseph Smith was a known treasure digger. All these details are just the tip of the iceberg and will show red flags to anyone trying to join this cult.
