Biography
Henry B. Eyring is an apostle who has served since 1995 and previously served in the First Presidency as a counselor from 2008 to 2018 under President Monson and again from 2025. The son of renowned scientist Henry Eyring, he was raised in an intellectually distinguished family and pursued an academic career before church service.
Eyring earned his MBA and doctorate from Harvard Business School and was a professor of business administration at Stanford before being appointed commissioner of Church Education and later president of Ricks College (now BYU-Idaho).
As an apostle and First Presidency member, Eyring is known for his emotional speaking style and frequent tears during talks—a characteristic that some find moving and others find excessive. His talks often emphasize gratitude, the Holy Ghost, and personal spiritual experiences.
Eyring has been assigned to oversee the church’s educational system and has championed BYU-Pathway Worldwide, an initiative to provide affordable online education to members worldwide.
He is the most senior apostle after President Oaks and returned to the First Presidency upon Oaks becoming president in 2025.
