Biography

Neal A. Maxwell was an apostle from 1981 until his death in 2004. An educator and academic, Maxwell was known for his intellectual approach to the gospel and his eloquent, poetic speaking style.

Maxwell served as commissioner of church education and president of the University of Utah’s Department of Religion before his apostolic call. His talks were notable for their sophisticated vocabulary and literary allusions.
