Biography

Marion G. Romney was an apostle from 1951 until his death in 1988 and served in the First Presidency. Born in Mexico to Mormon colonists, Romney had a legal background.

Romney was known for his emphasis on self-reliance and the church welfare program. He served as Second Counselor and then First Counselor in the First Presidency, though declining health limited his service in later years.

He is sometimes confused with George Romney, the Michigan governor and presidential candidate, who was his cousin. Marion Romney served 37 years as an apostle.
