James E. Talmage was an apostle from 1911 until his death in 1933 and is remembered as one of the church’s foremost intellectuals. A geologist and educator, he brought scientific training to church leadership.

Talmage authored “Jesus the Christ” and “Articles of Faith,” two books that remain influential in LDS theology. He was president of the University of Utah and a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
