Biography

D. Todd Christofferson is an apostle who has served since 2008 and was called to the First Presidency in 2025. A Utah native, Christofferson had a distinguished legal career, including clerking for federal judge John J. Sirica during the Watergate scandal and working as in-house counsel for several corporations.

Christofferson is known for careful, legally precise speaking. He has addressed moral agency, discipleship, and the role of men in families. He was the spokesperson who announced the 2015 policy regarding same-sex couples and their children—a controversial policy later reversed.

His brother Tom Christofferson, who is openly gay, has been active in LDS-LGBT dialogue, creating an interesting family dynamic. D. Todd has spoken carefully about loving LGBTQ+ individuals while maintaining church teachings on marriage.

His international experience includes serving as a regional representative and area president in Mexico and Central America before his apostolic call. As a member of the First Presidency since October 2025, he serves as a counselor to President Dallin H. Oaks.
